Fruit Smoothies
Fruit smoothies are fun and easy to make and enjoy. Use fresh or frozen fruit and/or fruit juices or frozen concentrate for the fruit flavour. Bananas should be chilled.
Use yogurt, tofu, frozen sherbet, ice cream, milk or cream, soy milk, or any specialty milks for the smoothie texture.
Usually the fruit and juices, and the sweetness of the dairy or tofu are enough for sweetness, but you can add your own favorite sweetner, including honey, stevia, jam or a nutri-sweet product.
Adding ice will thicken and chill the smoothie. You can add flavorings such as lemon juice, syrups, vanilla, maple, crushed nuts or chocolate, spices - let your imagination soar.
Mixed Fruit Smoothie - 1 cup pineapple juice
- 1 cup orange juice
- 1/2 frozen banana chunks
- 1 cup pineapple sherbet
- 11/2 cups frozen mango or melon slices
Put all in smoothie maker or blender-can add ice if your machine is ice capable.
Pina Colada - 21/2 cups pineapple juice
- 1/2 cup vanilla ice cream
- 11/2 cups frozen pineapple chunks
- 1/2 frozen banana chunks
- 5 tbsp coconut milk
Blend all together for a great tropical treat.
Power Smoothie (for all day energy) - 1/2 cup frozen papaya
- 1/2 banana
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- 1 tsp flaxseed oil
- 1-2 tbsp psyllium fiber (or wheat germ, etc)
- 1/2 cup fortified vanilla soy milk
- 1 tbsp black strap molasses
In blender process all ingredients and add enough water or ice to your favorite consistency, and smooth. Enjoy!
Blackberry Banana Smoothie - 1 banana
- 3/4 cup berries
- 1/3 cup yogurt
- 1 serving scoop natural soy protein powder
- 4-6 ice cubes
- 1/2 cup orange juice
Blend until well mixed. your smoothie will have a delightful frothy texture. This is a great pick-me-up for any time of day.
Juice Drinks
While smoothies are typically fruit drinks, vegetables make up the greater number of juicing drinks. Try to get at least the recommended 5 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. Juicing makes it easy.
Apple and Celery Juice - 1 stalk celery

Run through the juicer to separate pulp. Serve fresh or chilled.
Super Cleansing Juice - 1/2 cucumber
- 1 beet with the greens
- 4 carrots
Run through the juicer to separate the pulp. Celery stick to garnish. Serve fresh or chilled
Calcium Drink - 4 carrots
- 2 stalks celery
- handful pf parsley
- handful of spinach
Process the vegetables in the juicer.
